The Cooperator as originally envisaged by Don Bosco is a true Salesian in the world. The Cooperators may well claim to be the eldest born of the Salesian Family, for they continue in the steps of the clergy and laity who were Don Bosco’s help before he founded the Salesian Congregation. They are the externs Salesians always inseparably linked with it.
Salesian Cooperators have existed in the Church more than a hundred years. To be a Co-operator is a practical and upto–date way of living the love of Christ and participating in the unique mission of the Church.
In the province today there are five units of Salesian Cooperators.

IMPHAL UNIT
The Salesian Cooperators movement in the Province of Dimapur was initiated by Fr. Joseph Eddukudan, the former Rector of Don Bosco Imphal in 1979. But it died out in 1981. After a lapse of six years in July 1986 when Fr. Peter Bianchi was given the charge of the Provincial delegate he revived the Cooperators movement on the Jubilee Day of Mary Immaculate Church, Imphal Fr. Job Kallarackal was then appointed local delegate of Imphal unit and under his guidance the Cooperators movement took root in Manipur.
The first batch of thirteen Salesian Cooperators made their promises during the Centenary celebrations on 10th April 1988 with Fr. Mathew Pulingathil the then Provincial of Dimapur Province receiving the promises. Mr. John Makhabo was the first Coordinator with Mrs. Mary Besa as Finance Secretary, Mr. John Lukhohoa & Dr. Gina as Joint Secretaries.

DIMAPUR UNIT
The Dimapur unit of Salesian Cooperators was started in the year 1988 under the guidance and personal interest of Fr. C.D. Mathai who was the local delegate. He formed the Cooperators with study of the, RAL, Life of Don Bosco. The Salesian Cooperator: a real vocation in the Church by Fr. Aubey after a two-year period of apostolic activity and study the first group of 7 Cooperators from Dimapur made their promise on 16th September 1990. Fr. Scaria N. received the promises in Holy Cross Parish Church. Mr. Cajetan Mahung was the first Coordinator with Mr. Matthew Rongmei Secretary & Late Philip Ekka the administrator.

MAO UNIT
Rev. Fr. Peter Bianchi – Provincial delegate was very keen in establishing Cooperators Center in Mao. On 31 December 1989 the first official meeting was held at St. Mary’s Parish Punanamei with nineteen Aspirants. And animated by Fr. Bosco Percyanayagam. H.M of Don Bosco & John Makhabo – Co-ordinator of Imphal unit. Ad-hoc Council Members were elected M. Athili – Co-ordinator, Mrs. L. Kapea – Finance Secretary, Mr. N. Losii Council Member, Mr. H. Athisii Council Member.
On 12-4-92 first Batch of 9 took their promise
 

TAMENGLONG UNIT
The year 1992-94 had been marked as the under formation period for erection of the Salesian Cooperators through the enthusiastic guidance of Fr. K.S. Joseph Parish Priest & Fr. C.D. Mathai Kottarathil APP.
On 31st August 1994 in a solemn Eucharist Function celebrated by Fr. Varghese the Provincial & Fr. Peter Bianchi. Provincial delegate Fr. K.S Joseph P.P & Fr. C.D. Mathai – 4 cooperators took their promise & the first Coordinator was Mr. K.C Ramkhuanang Bruno. Secretary Dr. G. Mergai Jone, Administrator Mr. Pr. Guisenang Denis and member Mr. Pr. Shanglhiunang Dominic.

KOHIMA UNIT
The first meeting of the Salesian Cooperator convened by Fr. Joseph Edakkudan was held at CPC on 7th March 1993. Ten aspirants attended. After Mass. Fr. P. Bianchi animated the groups. Some more aspirants too joined later.
On the 16th October 1994 the first batch a record number of 12 co-operators made their promise at Kohima. With the starting of this unit at Kohima the number of local units in Dimapur Province rose to five.
