BOARDINGS AND HOSTELS Ravalico College Hostel Imphal, started in 1985 houses Catholic boys studying in various colleges in this town. In more than twenty years of its service, dozens of students have passed through the portals of the hostel. Don Bosco Hostel at Science College, Kohima, started in 1989 is a government- recognized institution. Over the years, the hostel with 26 seats has helped many of its alumni to get good jobs with sound financial base. Bishop Marengo Hostel, Dibrugarh, with a residential capacity for more than 26 students pursuing their studies in the local colleges was started in 1999 for the Catholic boys of Dibrugarh diocese. All these hostels are not attached to any of our institutions but are providing residential facilities to catholic boys of the region and enabling them to attend institutions of higher learning.
Don Bosco College Hostels in Itanagar and Maram give accommodation to a large number of boys studying in the two colleges run by the Salesians. The majority in students in all these hostels are Catholics and providing a largely Catholic atmosphere to the hostels and a salutary influence to the students in the college in general.
There are also a number of boardings run by the Salesians in the province. Every mission station has a boarding so also almost all the Don Bosco schools in the province. The Salesians regard these as an important apostolate in the province. These have been powerful means of reaching out to people in the far flung areas of the various regions. Keeping in mind that our boardings are the “seminaries for the laity” regular religious instruction and training are given to them so that they will have a good grasp of our faith and will be able to practice and impart it to others.
Boarders are gradually educated to freedom and responsibility. For this co-curricular activities are encouraged without neglecting the academic excellence. The educative presence of the Salesian community is with them. Our hostels are mainly for Catholic college students and young workers. The hostellers in the college hostels share the responsibility of running the hostel. They, under the guidance of the warden, are also held be responsible for the maintenance of discipline. |
