YACHULI - ST. JOHN BOSCO PARISH & SCHOOL
History
Yachuli is 145 km from Itanagar on the National High Way No. 54. Yachuli had been started with the purpose of catechizing and consolidating the Catholic presence in and around the area.
The Catholic Church established itself in the Yachuli area only in 1984. It was through the instrumentality of Mr. Joram Yalin and Ms. Taba Yajar, students of St. Francis Xavier’s School, Harmutty, that the Catholic Faith came to Yachuli. On 12th February 1997 the church was blessed. On 24th February 1999, construction work of the high school building began. It was blessed on 26th November 2000, by Rt. Rev. Robert Kerketta SDB,DD, the bishop of Tezpur and inaugurated by Sri Mukut Mithi, the Hon. Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. In 2000, the construction work for the boy’s hostel began. It was completed in 2002. In January 2005, construction of the presbytery was started. It was blessed on 26th November 2006 by Rt. Rev. John Thomas, the Bishop of Itanagar and inaugurated by Sri Nabam Tuki, Hon. Minister for P.W.D.
The Primary school affiliated to the state board in 2003, the Middle school in 2004 (up to Class VIII), High school affiliated to the CBSE in 2006.
Today
In 2007, the Mission at Yachuli has about 42 Catholic villages. In 2007, there are 500 students with 20 teaching staff including fathers and sisters. 70% of the students are Catholics. In 2007 the 1st batch of 22 students appeared matriculation. In 2007 there are 85 boys and 55 girls in the boarding (80% Catholics)
