ITANAGAR - DON BOSCO SCHOOL
History
Don Bosco School was inaugurated on 11th February 1993 by the Ministers of Civil Supplies Mr. Tardar Taniang. The dream of beginning a Don Bosco Centre, at the capital of Arunachal Pradesh was thus realized. The school was upgraded to Class VIII in 2000, Class IX in 2001 and Class X in 2002. The new school building was inaugurated on 16th August 2001 by Shri. Mukut Mithi, the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. Don Bosco School was affiliated to CBSE on 1st April 2004.
The community also looks after the parish of Itanagar. On 4th February 2004, Fr. Akkarapatty Jose took charge of the whole capital complex church. The new parish was erected by Rt. Rev. Robert Kerketta, SDB, the Bishop of Tezpur. On 25th July 2004 he was officially appointed the first Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Parish, Itanagar,
Today
In order to help out students coming to school from distant places, a new school bus was bought in November 2006. The bus started running for students from 8th January 2007 onwards. The total number of students in Don Bosco School, Itanagar in the year 2007 is 430 and has 14 on the staff. There are 95 boys in the hostel.
The community also has started a new Youth Centre in the city of Itanagar. Fr. P.C. Cyriac is appointed the first director of the new youth centre inaugurated in August 2007.
