Don Bosco School, Dergaon, is located one kilometre off the national highway No. 37. Situated within the district of Golaghat, it is approximately 25 km from Golaghat and Jorhat. The centre was opened in 1995 with the main purpose of contacting the Mising tribe. The centre can approach about 50 villages, each with about 50-100 families. A plot of land was bought by Fr. Theophilus Ganlari on 11th March 1993, while he was Parish Priest of Golaghat. In 1994 Fr. Benjamin Toppo looked after the centre from Golaghat. Fr. Matthew Narimattam took charge of the mission of Dergaon on 11th January 1995 looking after it from Jorhat. On 7th February 1995 Fr. Matthew and Fr. Theophilus came to live in a rented house at Dergaon. A school with nursery classes began on 1st March 1995 with 84 children.
The centre has grown and the school is a high school now. The first batch of matriculation students numbering eighty appeared for the HSLC exams in 2007. In 2007 there are 820 students in the school. The Salesians also run a boarding for boys studying in the school belonging to the Mising tribe.
