History
Longding is the subdivisional headquarters of the Wancho tribe in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh. It is located at a distance of 62 km from Khonsa the district headquarters.
In 2002, Fr. Vattoth Thomas began the school at Londing. Fr. Kulluvelli Thomas was the first priest who took up residence at Don Bosco Longding, which was then called as mount hostel. On 20th March 2002, Mr. Tingpong the P.W.D Minister of Arunachal Pardesh inaugurated the Longding Don Bosco. For the first two months Fr. Thomas along with two lay teachers Ms.Lucy and Ms. Cecilia Mao come from Mintong centre everyday. In May 2002, Fr. Thomas along with the two teachers began to stay at Longding itself. Fr. Thomas worked at the centre from March 2002 to January 2004. On 20th Janurary 2004, Fr. Xalxo Emmanuel was appointed In-Charge and Fr. Vattoth Thomas as the assistant priest.
Today
A plot of land purchased two years ago, just a km away from the nearest town, and work is in progress to begin a formal school, especially for the Wancho tribe. There are two priests residing at the centre now. Presently, there are 133 students and 7 teachers. All the teachers are Catholics and majority of the students are also Catholics. Students from the various tribes inhabiting the area, such as Nocte, Wancho and Lazu, attend the school.
