History
Through the initiative of Fr. Jose Chemparathy (C.C.) and with the full support of the government of Arunachal Pradesh Don Bosco College, Itanagar was opened in 2002 with Fr. Sebastian Karottupuram as the first Principal of the college. Don Bosco College is the first Catholic institution of higher learning in the state. The construction of a two storey building had already begun in November 2001 under the supervision of Fr. Chemparthy Jose. The ground floor was completed by July 2002. The vacant villa of Confrere’s Quarters was turned into a hostel.
The new session was inaugurated on 4th August 2002 by Mr. Joram Begi, Director of Higher and Technical Education, Arunachal Pradesh. There were 36 students and three lecturers at the time of inauguration. The College was granted permission to begin honours courses in four subjects namely, English, Economics, Political Science and History. Since its beginning the number has steadily increased which necessitated more space. The foundation was laid for the new College building in September 2004 and the new building was inaugurated on 29th September 2006. A new building, commerce block and confreres’ quarters, are under construction.
