Salesian Congregation looks upon missionary work as an essential feature of our congregation (C. 30).

The province of Dimapur has always considered and herself a missionary province. There are vast regions and numerous cultures that have not yet been reached by the Gospel. As such all our works, whatever their nature may be, is a setting for missionary work. In many centres possibilities are still great for direct evangelization.  Hence we hold the missionary nature of our vocation in high regard.

There are eighteen Salesian parishes in the five dioceses of Dimapur Province. And most of these presences are found in regions where first evangelisation and faith formation are the main focus of the pastoral ministry.
The chief methods of evangelisation and faith formation are education of the young –both formal and non-formal – catechism classes, pastoral works in parishes and mission centres, village tours, family visits, health care, and human developmental works.

Besides these, there are also training and animation programmes organized in these centres, for various associations and groups, like, Catechists, Catholic Youth Associations, Elders' Associations, Women's Associations, Couples of Christ, Youth for Christ, Youth Leaders, Women Associations, Teachers, through Bible camps, youth camps, leaderships camps, orientation camps, retreats etc.
